Popkomm 2010 - Berlin, Germany - September 8-10, 2010

The Canada Stand will deliver a full complement of business-to-business, live performance and networking opportunities targeted to help export-ready Canadians access the international arena at POPKOMM in Berlin September 8 to 10, 2010. Stay posted for more details as they are confirmed.

After a one-year hiatus, POPKOMM is back in full force. In the past, many Canadian CIMA members have reported substantial deals and networking opportunities at POPKOMM.  The last POPKOMM event was held in 2008 and attracted more than 14,000 participants through national stands and 843 exhibitors from 52 countries.

In addition to Canada, other national pavillons and delegations will be in attendance including Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Faröe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain ( Primavera Sound), Sweden, Switzerland and the USA (indie market represented by A2IM). Popkomm organizers are currently in negotiation with additional Eastern European countries, as well as Belgium, India and Luxemburg.

POPKOMM features a trade show, conference and festival and remains a major destination for the international music industry. POPKOMM is recognized as a primary gateway to continental Europe and attracts representatives from the music and entertainment industries, as well related sectors such as mobile, digital, interactive & games, film, television, marketing and advertising.

The 2010 event features a Festival, Conference and Exhibition and will take place at the former Airport Templehof in Berlin.

After skipping a year, regrouping and reinventing itself, Popkomm is back – now under the umbrella of Berlin Music Week. In the past, many Canadian CIMA members have reported substantial deals and networking opportunities at Popkomm. The deadline to submit bands for inclusion in the Popkomm Festival is April 30, 2010.

Music2Deal India is hosting an opportunity to send an export-ready original band to Berlin to perform at Popkomm. Any original Canadian artist can apply to perform if they are of East Indian descent and hold a valid Canadian passport.
Canada will feature prominently at Popkomm in Berlin September 8 to 10, 2010, with Popkomm and Jazzkomm showcases. The following Canadian jazz artists are confirmed for Jazzkomm: Brandi Disterheft (Justin Time), Francois Bourassa Quartet (Fleming Artist Management), Johanna Silanpaa and Tyler Hornby (Chronograph Records), the Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra (Curve Music) and The Shuffle Demons. In addition to daytime showcases at the Tempelhof conference and exhibition site, the Canadian jazz artists are the centre attraction at Popkomm's opening night party on Tuesday night, September 7 at the Franz Klub. More will follow with additional Canadian acts to perform at the Popkomm Festival and a special Canadian Blast! on Thursday night, September 9 at the Comet Club.

Alma recording artist Hilario Duran has just been added to line-up of Canadian jazz artists opening Popkomm’s inaugural Jazzkomm festival on Tuesday night, September 7 at the Frannz Club in Berlin. Hilario joins Brandi Disterheft (Justin Time), François Bourassa Quartet (Fleming Artist Management), Johanna Silllanpaa and Tyler Hornby (Chronograph Records), the Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra (Curve Music) and The Shuffle Demons.

Addiitonal Jazzkomm showcases during the day at Tempelhof’s Friseur Club will feature Chris Donnelly and Vito Rezza and 5After4. Other Canadian artists onsite for Popkomm showcases confirmed to date are Grand Analog, Two Hours Traffic, Delhi 2 Dublin, Yukon Blonde, Jonas & the Massive Attraction, Jully Black and Rich Aucoin.

Popkomm celebrates two days of jazz. For the first time, Jazzkomm will run September 8-9 2010 onsite at Airport Berlin Tempelhof during Popkomm.
Popkomm has a new home at the legendary Tempelhoff Airport . The now decommissioned ‘Airport that Saved Berlin’ by hosting the Berlin Airlift provides the ideal setting for Popkomm and Jazzkomm’s to welcome the world to a series of panels, live concerts and showcases. The new location is nestled in the heart of the city within a five mile radius of the Berlin’s Distellery District.
