Our President
Duncan McKie

Duncan McKie is the President and CEO of the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA), which represents over 160 company members of the English Canadian music industry.

Mr. McKie assumed the position in June of 2007 after a long career in consulting and market research. His previous position was Vice-Chairman of POLLARA, one of Canada’s premier research organizations. During that time, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Puretracks, Canada’s first music download site. Mr. McKie also acted as a consultant to the Canadian Recording Industry Association, where he provided support in marketing and public opinion research, regulatory and copyright matters.

Mr. McKie has worked in or for some of Canada’s largest media organizations, starting with TVOntario in the late 1970’s, and including the CBC where he was Head of Audience Research. He was also a senior VP at BBM between 1986 and 1992, where he provided client services to the radio industry.

He is Chair of the Advisory Committee on Communications, Marketing and Programming (ACCMAP) of the National Capital Commission in Ottawa, is a Board member of the NRCC and the AVLA, two music licensing agencies, and is on the Executive of the Board of the Cultural Human Resources Council in Ottawa. Mr. McKie has a BA and MA in Sociology from York University in Toronto.

Mr. McKie is currently co-chair of the Music Advisory Committee of the Ontario Media Development Corporation.
